Last year I was part of a 5 week teaching and research strike to negotiate our first contract as graduate student researchers at the University of California. While yes, we are still learning, we graduate workers also do a majority of laboratory work, data analysis and paper writing and are already highly trained (many of us with a Masters or professional experience). This should be honored with a livable wage, and therefore I will represent my coworkers at UC Merced as union head steward in our fight.
